Have a safe, healthy and happy weekend everybody ~ winter lingers on here, and the boys and I love it. Our ‘girls’ roam in and out all day checking to see what we’re up to. Hopefully more snow in the days ahead. I try to convince the ‘girls’ to tuck under the edge of the cabin’s porch out of the weather, but obviously they have their comfortable safe place somewhere among the thick forest which is home to them ~ but I love to know they feel safe to visit here daily. It’s very special to look down from upstairs at the crack of dawn every morning and see them waiting for us….and many times wandering in to see us as the sun is going down ~ special indeed

Thank you for this post… at a much needed time! We are about to be under a severe winter storm warning… one of the worst they say in 30 years! I’ve stocked up on food for the next 7 days and feeling a bit stressed at the thought of MORE alone time and unable to get out on my adventures with sweet Charlie. Your words have inspired me to consider “home” a blessing during this upcoming week long lockdown.

Hang in there you two! I know, we have to create our own good times and find joy in the simple, little treasures! I try to remember this daily, but no doubt challenging and trying days we’re living in – i have to remember who’s ultimately in control and get out and savor the blessings we have❤️. You are so lucky that the deer know you are a friend. Ours are still a bit stand-offish. We have a large buck that roams through the yard once daily.

Love those bucks! I think my ‘girls’ got comfortable with me simply by me meeting them outside every time they show up and by literally talking to them in a soft voice – consistent communication and a nibble of apple, etc. Who knows??? And they acclimated to the Westies quickly too – enclosed on the porch always! 😀

Ah yes, before the snow accumulation exceed two feet we had regular visitors from the forest and I too whispered to them to just crawl under our deck and stay for the night. Then came the night as I was preparing for bed when I caught a glimpse of a doe with her young fawn following close in the moonlight on the bright snow. As I watched I noticed that her right front leg appeared to be broken as it became increasingly difficult for her to cross the field to the trail leading to some of the homes on the opposite side. My heart was racing, what to do? Nothing. But the fawn was now in danger also. I comforted myself thinking they will keep each other warm and she will regain her mobility. But that would take a while. I placed them in the Lords Hand and thought I will look for them in the Spring, surely He will take care of them.
Now as the snow is over two feet the tracks have disappeared none of our deer have appeared; there used to be eight. I’m still watching for the Doe and fawn. The forecast calls for more snow tonight. I pray they have found a safe place with the Lord’s covering.
We do think alike when it comes to our forest friends. Thank you for your observations.

Wow! I know, my heart aches about things like that. I suppose we have to think all these critters were here way before us and know how to survive and care for one another…. and most of the time we can’t intervene- have to trust God – all belong to Him!
